Local Natives just got real. Gorilla Manor was all sunshine and rainbows, but this album is something else. It’s like if the band experienced the harshness of the world we live in. The heartbreaks that tear you apart and leave you lost, the sudden deaths that leave you paralyzed with fear, the entire myriad of life’s problems that overwhelm you. However, even though the album does deal with darker subjects, there is still a glimmer of that optimism that was abundant in the first album. Somehow they saw the cold truths we live through but they still see the light, they are still keeping their heads up high and making music straight from the soul.
